EPOS and RAF-NL Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Advance Sustainable Local Production of Pediatric Wheelchairs in Ethiopia Addis Ababa, November 3, 2026 The Ethiopian Prosthetic and Orthotic Service (EPOS) and Reach Another Foundation Netherlands (RAF-NL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening the sustainable local production of pediatric wheelchairs in Ethiopia and expanding access to assistive technology. The MoU was signed by Dr. Tariku Tadesse, Chief Executive Officer of EPOS, and Dr. Yacob Ahmed, Country Director of RAF-NL in Ethiopia. The partnership aims to increase domestic production capacity and ensure that children who require mobility support have access to appropriate, safe, high-quality, and affordable wheelchairs. Under the agreement, EPOS will lead the implementation and sustainability of local pediatric wheelchair production. Its responsibilities include adapting product designs to the local context, developing and manufacturing prototypes, conducting clinical trials and quality assurance, customizing wheelchairs to meet users’ individual needs, and providing follow-up and maintenance services. RAF-NL, on the other hand, will provide technical knowledge transfer, professional capacity building, training, and technical assistance. It will also support the provision of production inputs, mobilize resources to improve access to pediatric wheelchairs, and coordinate the project. Beyond increasing wheelchair production, the agreement is expected to strengthen local human resources and technical capacity in Ethiopia’s assistive technology sector, reduce reliance on imported products, and contribute to a sustainable domestic supply of assistive technology. Most importantly, this partnership represents a significant step toward empowering children with mobility limitations to move independently, participate actively in education and social life, and achieve greater independence and inclusion in their communities. EPOS and RAF-NL remain committed to advancing accessible, affordable, and sustainable assistive technology solutions that improve the quality of life of children with disabilities.
